01Kids in space

I've worked with Google on all kinds of projects, doing everything from helping Indian businesses get on the internet, to creating a campaign that identified Europe's up-and-coming online brands. Just recently I worked on the Space Lab campaign. This is a YouTube channel that's inspired a whole new generation of kids around the world to get interested in space, science and discovery - and stay curious about what's out there.

So far, the campaign has clocked-up some 50 million viewers - and given three lucky winners the chance to have their own home-cooked science experiments carried out on the International Space Station. Looking ahead, the channel will continue being a place where kids can learn, explore, share and dream.

02Making money talk

Nationwide Building Society has a huge online presence, offering everything from current accounts, loans and savings to mortgages, insurance and investments. I'm lucky enough to work alongside its digital design and development teams - coming up with ideas, crafting headlines, creating body copy and making sure off-line campaigns are brought to life online.

I've also had a lot of involvement with Nationwide's online banking service - writing functional and pithy copy that helps people find their way around and go exploring. Oh, and if you've ever wondered who thinks up those adverts on Nationwide's ATM screens... well, now you know.

03Crunch time

I've worked with Apple's in-house teams on a few different campaigns - creating radio scripts, website content, outdoor advertising, brand guidelines and even in-store materials. Much of it supports the company's global network of premium re-seller stores.

Projects have included app descriptions featured on Apple's UK and US websites [across iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone], a Christmas radio campaign channelling shoppers into their local Apple store, web content for affiliate retailers and, just recently, an email encouraging people to 'make it a Mac.'

04Good clean fun

I was head of copywriting at Dyson for four years, becoming involved in pretty much all customer-facing communications from press advertising and TV to packaging and digital. Working with an engineering business like Dyson also gave me a great opportunity to get right into the heart of a product and help define the core proposition for developing ideas and core concepts.

I also played a part in creating Dyson's tone of voice - teasing out and defining the delicate balance that keeps the brand true to its engineering roots. Part of that included running a series of tone workshops, giving employees and design agencies a deeper understanding of the brand and the special way it communicates. Telling, not selling.

05Writing for writers

Stratton Craig is one of the UK's most successful copywriting agencies. It started 25 years ago in a barn just outside Bath and, since then, has gone from strength to strength. Today, it works with many hugely well-known global brands including British Airways, BMW, SKY, Honda, McDonald's and Citroen.

Being in its core team of writers, I get to work with a whole range of companies. I've written about youth hostels, hotels, recruitment, corporate catering, soup, porridge, casserole dishes, cars, banking, leased office space, cruises, healthcare, fast food, universities, toy dolls, health clubs, government agencies, trains, newspapers, coffee, investment services, medical technology and, yes, even kitchen sinks.

06The shirt on my back

I started writing for the clothing brand Howies a while back, after one of its catalogues came through the door. Actually, catalogue isn't quite the right word. They're more like books full of brand stories, dotted with the clothes they make and the thinking behind them. In fact, these little books have now become quite collectible. I was impressed and wanted to get involved.

I've contributed several articles to the books over the years, including one about the relatively unknown Swedish explorer, Sven Hedin (Find your inner Sven). Now and again, I also do banners and other bits and pieces on the website - and get paid in clothes for the privilege.
